174 of the 481 released creatures in Creatures of Sonaria carry flight fields, and the fastest pair in the air are Brequewk and Kiiwin, both at a flight speed of 58. That is 36.2 per cent of the roster, and it is a larger group than the 140 creatures the game types as Flier, because Gliders and a handful of aquatic creatures fly too.

Everything below is computed from the game's own creature stat table, the 4 September 2026 revision of Module:CreatureData/data on the official Fandom: 481 creatures, 51 fields each, no missing values. Where a number is a median or a count we worked out ourselves rather than lifting from a ranking table, it is marked as computed from that table.

How many creatures actually fly

The type field has five values, and two of them describe flight. But carrying the flight fields is the stricter test, and it does not follow type exactly.

Every creature typed Flier or Glider has a flight speed, with no exceptions, and no Terrestrial creature has one. The interesting group is the ten that fly without being typed for it: Exotide, Gobli, Gryvila, Zohdok (all Tier 2 Semi-Aquatic), Zwevealisk and Corsarlett (Tier 3 Semi-Aquatic), Oxysenix (Tier 4 Semi-Aquatic), and Squitico, Zhelijin and Glovaucus on the Aquatic side. The official wiki maintains finer cross-categories than the type field does, including one called Skyquatic with 9 members and Aqua-Glider with 3, so this overlap is recognised there even though the stat table flattens it. If you filter a creature list on type = Flier alone you will miss all ten. More on that trap on the types page.

Two things this table shows that no subjective ranking does. First, fifteen of the top twenty are Tier 1 and the remaining five are Tier 2: the fastest flight in the game belongs entirely to the two smallest size bands. Second, six of the top twenty are Gliders, a type with only 24 members, so Gliders are over-represented at the top by a wide margin.

The cut at twenty is arbitrary where values tie. Pentagloss, a Tier 1 Flier, also sits at 49 and is only outside the list because ties are broken alphabetically. Ranked lists that stop at a round number always hide a tie band like this one.

The flight fields, and what the data actually says

The stat table carries eleven fields grouped with flight and sprinting. Only four of them are flight-specific, and the counts below are computed from the 4 September 2026 table.

An honest caveat on the middle three. The official wiki's infobox renders labels and units for health, damage, stamina, oxygen, turn and the rest, which is how their meanings are pinned down. It does not render an explanatory label for flySprintMultiplier, glideStaminaRegen or takeoffMultiplier, so what we can report is the shape of the numbers, not a mechanical claim about how takeoff or gliding behaves in play. We are not going to invent one. Exotide is the single creature with a flySpeed and no flySprintMultiplier at all.

One distribution is worth calling out because it separates the two flying types cleanly. Fourteen of the 24 Gliders use a flySprintMultiplier of 0.25, a value not one creature typed Flier uses. Fliers instead spread across 0.2 (23 creatures), 0.3 (43), 0.4 (36) and 0.5 (38). All nine of the aquatic-typed fliers with the field also sit at 0.25. On takeoffMultiplier, the extremes are both notable: Vielheart, a Tier 5 Glider, holds the highest value in the game at 50, and Irizah is the highest Flier at 40.

The last two rows are the correction most creature lists would get wrong. jumpPower and jumpStamina are filled on 155 creatures, and none of those 155 fly: 124 are Terrestrial and 31 are Semi-Aquatic. They read like flight fields and they are ground fields.

Flight speed falls as size rises

Air speed tracks tier more tightly than almost anything else in the table. Medians computed from the 481-creature table.

The bands barely overlap. The slowest Tier 1 flier (48) is faster in the air than the fastest Tier 4 flier (40), and the fastest Tier 5 flier, Veishyadar at 31, is beaten by every single Tier 3 flier. The two slowest flight speeds in the game belong to Gimon-Ogu at 15 and Opralegion at 16, both Tier 5.

Do not read flySpeed against sprintSpeed. They are separate fields on separate scales, flight running 15 to 58 and sprint running 50 to 205 across the full roster. A flier with 58 is not "slower" than a ground creature with 94. Ground speed rankings live on the fastest creatures page.

Does flight cost you health and damage?

Yes, and the effect survives the obvious objection. Across the whole roster the flying group looks weaker, but flying creatures are also under-represented at Tier 5, where 26 of the 100 largest creatures fly against 36.2 per cent across the roster. So the roster-wide gap could simply be a size-mix artefact.

Splitting by tier removes the objection. This table compares flying and non-flying creatures within the same size band, computed from the 4 September 2026 table.

At Tiers 2 through 5 the flying median is below the non-flying median on health, damage and weight every time, and the gap widens with size: at Tier 5 flying creatures give up 2,000 health and 77.5 damage against their grounded peers, and carry less than a third of the weight. Tier 1 is the only exception, where fliers are marginally ahead on health and exactly level on damage. Flight also does not buy back ground mobility: flying creatures have the lower sprint median at Tiers 1 to 4, and only edge ahead at Tier 5 (70 against 66).

That said, the top of the flying roster is not weak in absolute terms. Erridea deals 500 damage, which beats the Tier 5 damage median of 300 despite being Tier 4, and Opralegion carries 10,500 health, one of the twenty highest health values in the game. What the tier-split table says is narrower and more useful: for a creature of a given size, having a flight speed lines up with lower health, lower damage and lower weight. Compare any two creatures side by side on compare stats.

Passives that track flight almost perfectly

Some ability names in the passive field are effectively flight markers. Counts computed from the full table.

Sonic Wings: 37 creatures, and all 37 fly.
Diver: 53 creatures, and all 53 fly.
Wing Shredder: 115 creatures, and not one of them flies.
Soft Landing: 42 creatures, of which only 4 fly.
All-Terrain: all 15 creatures with mobilityOverride set to All-Terrain are typed Flier, including Zakaiodrak and Ura.

We are reporting the co-occurrence, not the mechanic. The stat table gives ability names and, sometimes, a bracketed number; it does not define what any of them do, and the abilities page keeps to the same limit.

What this page cannot tell you

Stats are not the whole game. A computed flight ranking says nothing about hitbox size, how a creature handles in the air, whether its ability set works with its speed, or how any of it feels in a 75-player server. Angelic Warden is the standing example: a Tier 4 Flier with 65 damage, which is near the bottom of the roster, built instead around resistance passives and a crowd-control ability. Tier 1 is the only tier where flying creatures are not behind.

Is flight speed comparable to sprint speed?

No. flySpeed and sprintSpeed are separate fields on separate scales: flight speeds run 15 to 58 across the 174 creatures that have one, while sprint speeds run 50 to 205 across all 481. A flight speed of 58 does not mean the creature is slower than a ground creature sprinting at 94. Compare flying creatures to other flying creatures only.

Which tier has the best flying creatures?

That depends on what you are measuring, and the data does not name a winner. Flight speed falls steadily as tier rises, from a median of 52.5 at Tier 1 to 26 at Tier 5, while health and damage rise. Tier 5 fliers such as Opralegion (10,500 health) buy their bulk with the two slowest flight speeds in the game, 16 and 15.

Do gliders work differently from fliers in the stat table?

They differ in one field's distribution. Fourteen of the 24 Gliders share a flight sprint multiplier of 0.25, a value no creature typed Flier uses at all, while Fliers spread across 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5. Gliders also hold the highest takeoff multiplier in the game, Vielheart at 50. Their flight speeds otherwise sit in the same band as Fliers.
